How to tuft between colors?

Situation: I've been using 1 line created by 2 strands but it's leaving me when a very thin black line that's being squeezed by the surrounding colours after trimming meaning it's hardly visible.

Suggestion: I do two lines next to each other and if there is not enough room for two lines I just go over the same line at least 2 times. Results are better but it’s still is thin sometimes.
Ultimately I stopped designing/redrawing/tracing etc with such thin lines to avoid this all together. If the line is thin in the design, when I trace it out I make it a lil thicker.
