1,  If you mean separate the lines, making sure it’s all in the right section, then yes . I do this with angled tweezers and a flat head screwdriver. If you just want to trim it flat all over that’s probably enough, if you want to trim/carve between sections then you should first go around all those areas with scissors first (that makes room for the trimmer) and then you use the trimmer along where you want to carve.

2, I will brush the rug out before I shave it to the overall height that I want and clean up some as I go. Then I will comb the different colors while carving.
