How Do Wash Your Tufted Rugs without It Falling Apart?

Opinion1: Don't recommend. Unless you are using top quality materials but even then I wouldn't risk it. Spot clean and vacuuming is all i would ever do.

Opinion2: Tuft guns rip up the foundation fabric by the nature of their function, as far as I can tell. Hand rug-hooked and punch-needled rugs can be thrown through a washing machine no problem with the right foundation fabric (no glue or backing fabric necessary, just a solid edge finish). But in general it’s better for the rugs to spot clean anyway.

I punchneedle tuft, and I’ve thrown my stuff through the wash just fine. Since I haven’t been able to get my hands on a tuft gun yet, I’ve only been able to theorize as to why gun-tufted rugs are so much less durable.

Opinion3: Punch needle rugs are usually one longer string for same color surfaces. With cut pile tufting, you have 10.000 U shaped short strings of 3cm. Only held in place by glue. It is just less strong as a structure.

Opinion4: What I always recommend is (for latex glue rugs) , vacuuming and using an upholstery cleaner (think Little Green) for wet cleaning.
