What is Tufting?

Tufting is a process of inserting yarn into the base fabric by moving a hollow needle up and down, and then achieving the tufting effect through finishing processes such as gluing and trimming.
  • History

The origin of tufting can be traced back to Georgia, USA in the 19th century. Because the surface appearance of the fabric is very similar to lawn, it is also called tufted rugs.In the 1930s and 1940s, tufted carpets developed from single needle tufting to row needle tufting. In the 1950s, jacquard and printed tufted carpets appeared.

Tufted fabrics have both beautiful and colorful appearance and comfortable plush effect, so they are widely used in home art design. Common products include tufted carpets, pillows, and display devices. The use of colors, the material and length of the yarn, and the combination of other techniques make tufting craftsmanship present rich and colorful designs.
